New Life was recorded on January 21, 2005 in Richland, Washington from 12 to 2 in the afternoon. Dan Myers, a gifted musician in his own right, used one microphone and his state of the art home studio to capture my songs in their most clear and simple form possible.
I had been performing in several living rooms at house concerts, and this record reflects that vibe: no effects or multi-tracking and only a couple songs were recorded more than once.
Thanks to all of the people who have been supporting me in the past few months since I went solo, and for all the years I have been making music. This collection is for you - I hope you enjoy the music!

Lighthouse for the Blind

Today, we learned that not all blind people are totally blind. Many legally blind people can see, just not perfectly. We also learned that it's hard for blind people to find places where they get a chance to have a job. But Lighthouse for the Blind is a place where many blind people work, doing all kinds of jobs from office work to public relations to making parts for airplanes!

We also got to sniff plants in the smelling garden, translate a song into braille, meet guide dogs, and see a talking computer.

It was a great week, and this was a great day to end on. Thanks everybody!

University District Food Bank

We had a great day putting together packages for people to get food at the food bank! We packaged rice, beans, corn, oats, doughnuts, milk, fruit, and all kinds of other foods.

The kids were having so much fun, they worked an extra hour! There are so many fun things to do at the food bank. I would recommend a trip for any family. The grownups feel good and the kids have fun, and it doesn't cost a cent!

Joe, our leader for the day, was great at explaining how and why the food bank runs, and making it really exciting for everybody.

We worked so long, we didn't have time to write a song, but I have included a link to the song we recorded on Monday, called Many Kinds of People, which is very appropriate for today's great adventure.

Parents, I am having a great time with this group. Everybody is getting along great, has a great attitude about trying new things and having fun, and I feel like I'm on vacation!

Hiking to Carkeek Park

Today was the day everybody got a workout as we hiked the Carkeek Park trail down to the Puget Sound. It was an adventure in every way, from vanquishing the evil giant Mosquitos in the forest to counting train cars as they raced by on the tracks, to watching the guy snowboarding on the water - and that wasn't even the best part!

We found all kinds of cool crabs - big ones, little ones, hermit crabs, and a bunch of other critters under the rocks and seaweed by the sea!

Hip Hop Dancing with Mary Kirkpatrick at Sound Mind and Body Gym

We went to Sound Mind and Body Gym (www.smbgym.com) and learned some "tough" hip hop moves from Mary Kirkpatrick.

At first, the girls were complaining a bit about how HARD it was, but after awhile, they realized they love to dance like that. They got so good, that they learned a whole dance routine in an hour! Thanks Mary!

After the dancing, we played at the park for a little while, then caught the bus. The kids were wondering what we would do if we missed the bus, and we talked about it for awhile. Our what ifs turned into a song:

Chroma Sound Recording Studio

Today, we wrote a song about waiting for the bus. We waited for the bus six times today, because we took six different buses to get to and from our destination.

Why did we go so far? Because we had the excellent opportunity to record a song in a professional recording studio!

The girls laughed when Eb sang without the guitar music out loud, but they held it together long enough to lay down some spicy vocal tracks of their own!!! Who knows, you might be driving in your car, and hear "Many Kinds of People" by Ebenezer's Posse on the radio someday!!

Discovery Park in the Rain? Fun!

We walked to Daybreak Star and watched the rain make circles in the ponds, and it was great! At first, we were sad because it was cold and wet, but then we kept moving, and it made us feel a lot better. We decided the weather would not bring us down! Thank you Maya, Bella, and Mahalia for a great week!

The Posse goes to Bremerton

And then turns right around and comes back! We weren't sure about the weather today, so we decided to take the long ride to Bremerton and stay dry instead of going to Bainbridge Island and sitting in the rain. Then it got sunny, and we all wished we had made the other decision.

It was a bit of a downer, as our song reflects, but at least we had a good time being bored! And nobody can ever say Ebenezer doesn't write down what the kids want to say!

Posse helps out at White Center Food Bank

We handed out food at the White Center Food Bank today, and there was a real feeling of welcomness and generosity from everybody. Thanks to everybody at the Food Bank, especially Cynthia and Rick for setting up our visit. I think the girls had a great time and felt good about their work! Ebenezer's Posse at Northwest Harvest

We headed on back down to Pier 91 to see Bill and the rest of the crew at NW Harvest! It was great to see two huge bins of bags of soup ready for us to box up.

Mehalia, Bella, and Maya quickly figured out it was easier to load the boxes right from the bins instead of using the table to put the food on first. Efficiency experts!!

We ended up helping 340 families and packing up over 2000 pounds of soup!

Tomorrow we will go to White Center Food bank to see if any of our soup made it there!

Spring Break Posse at Cranium's and the NE Library

Ebenezer's Posse is back in full force! Mahalia and I met Bella and Maya, told some stories, andheaded on down to Craniums for some hot chocolate and a rousing game of Sorry! which Maya just barely won. Everybody except Eb only needed one more card to be the winner, and Maya got hers first. After that, we took the Metro bus to the NE library, a charming newly renovated facility and checked out a bunch of books. Then it was back home to write and record the first song of the week! We're excited to be headed back to the Northwest Harvest Warehouse tomorrow to package some food to be sent out to food banks around the state!

The Posse at the Central Library

Ebenezer's Posse Goes to Bainbridge Island

Today, Elijah and Durban joined Mahalia and Melanie and, after learning a little something about boundaries from Super Nanny, we set off on Metro for the Bainbridge Island Ferry.

We found a great waterfront park in Bainbridge where we explored the beach and relaxed in the sun and on the grass until it was time to go back on the ferry. What a great time!

Elijah won a pack of lifesavers for the whole posse by throwing a pinecone in a garbage can from a long ways off, and we celebrated like we just won the World Series!

While we were exploring on the beach, we stumbled on a topic we have all struggled with at one time or another - What's a clam got to live for?

Ebenezer's Posse Works at Northwest Harvest

Mahalia, Melanie, and Ebenezer went to Northwest Harvest and packaged two liter bottles of Ginger Ale today. We put them in boxes to be shipped all around the state and given to people and families who need food. We found out from Bill at NW Harvest that not all people who go to a food bank or soup kitchen are homeless. Sometimes, they have just enough money to pay their bills, and nothing left over to buy food.

We had a great time at NW Harvest, and will be returning someday soon to help out again.

Ebenezer's Posse TV show Treatment

Brainstorming of a Treatment for a Kids’ Reality TV Show
The Big Idea
The drama and color of The Real World, The Educational Value of Discovery Kids, and the emotional payoff of Extreme Makeover - Home Edition, all rolled into one show!

Six charismatic kids, one Cowboy singer, and an unscripted adventure each episode will open eyes, provide new experiences, and inspire an original song.

Each episode will be a symbolic trip to an unknown and potentially scary environment in the real world of kids, such as a cancer ward or a homeless shelter where the “posse” will work on a project that will allow them to be generous, work together, make life better for others, and realize how fortunate their own lives are.

After experiencing the challenges and rewards of donating their time and effort to helping those less fortunate (but very similar in age), the “posse” will get together to write a song about their day’s experience.

Then, they will go into a studio to record the song, which will be combined with footage of the day to create a music video.

The Posse

Ebenezer Boesel, certified teacher with a Masters in Teaching and professional singer/songwriter, will be the leader of the group.

Charismatic, fun loving, and great with kids of all ages, Ebenezer will help the kids keep their focus on the task at hand and facilitate the writing of a song at the end of the show where the kids write lyrics and sing about an issue that comes up during the day.

The kids will be boys and girls, age 6 to 10, with unique, but real, personalities.

We’re not going to be hiring child actors, just normal people who like to have fun. Their experiences, conflicts, and growth will be the central theme of the show(think The Real World), and their sense of accomplishment will be the payoff(think Extreme Makeover - Home Edition).

The Show

The show will have a reality TV feel to it, with an “interview” room for one-on one interviews, unexpected drama, and editing that will appeal to young as well as adult viewers.

This will be a show parents will feel good about letting their kids watch, and kids will enjoy it as well.

Product placement will be decidedly progressive - with clothing from manufacturers who don’t pay cheap labor or kids to make their product, food which is organic, healthy, and very tasty, and all materials and gadgets having high educational as well as entertainment value.

What Happens

Early in the morning, Ebenezer will arrive at each kid’s door in a Hybrid SUV.

Kids won’t know where they are going or what they are doing, until a short video is shown about the group we will be working with that day (Example, a soup kitchen in downtown Seattle).

Ebenezer will talk about what they will be doing and how they can help, then they will arrive at the location and meet the contact person for the organization we will be working with.

After getting a brief tour of the premises, meeting the people, and getting a feel for the place, the “posse” will meet to make a plan for the day and discuss any issues that may be coming up for the kids such as fear, excitement, joy, or sadness.

The project begins, and the focus will be on letting things happen spontaneously and following the plot wherever it wants to go.

At the end of the day, the project will be finished, and the “posse” will say goodbye to their new friends.

The Payoff

That evening or the next day, the “posse” will come together in a recording studio to write and record a song about their experience with a positive moral that appeals to kids and adults.

Finally, the “Posse” will record the song, backed up by a local band.

The finished product will be the last few minutes of the show, with edited footage of the day to go along with the music.

The real magic of this experience will be the change affected in the opinions and perspectives of the kids in the Posse. When children this age show generosity, compassion, and understanding of another's circumstances, it is a very powerful moment. We aim to have several of these moments each show.
