Eb's Solo Music
New Life was recorded on January 21, 2005 in Richland, Washington from 12 to 2 in the afternoon. Dan Myers, a gifted musician in his own right, used one microphone and his state of the art home studio to capture my songs in their most clear and simple form possible.
I had been performing in several living rooms at house concerts, and this record reflects that vibe: no effects or multi-tracking and only a couple songs were recorded more than once.
Thanks to all of the people who have been supporting me in the past few months since I went solo, and for all the years I have been making music. This collection is for you - I hope you enjoy the music!

Lyrics and Music For New Life
A Hundred Years (listen)
Bumblebee is trying to get away
Doesn't look like a very good start to its day
If it could talk, I bet it would say
When I get out of here, I'm gonna fly for a hundred years
Little kid, runnin' on the playground before school
Loves to play with his friends, but the letters make him feel like a fool
His teacher begs him, use your energy as a tool
He says when I get out of here, I'm gonna run for a hundred years
In a hundred years, gonna be all new people
In a hundred years, everything could change
In a hundred years, maybe everybody's equal
A hundred years from now, different picture in the frame
We've got a president who can't see past the companies he wants to please
Thinks a victory is bringing a government to its knees
Another dictator out to make a few bucks is all I see
They say they're gonna fight him off for a hundred years
CHORUS
So you can ask yourself, when you die what kind of world will you leave
Will it be wonderful, where everybody considers themselves relatively free
What can you do now, to make it be like you wish it could be
What are they gonna say about you in a hundred years
CHORUS
Dollar Bill (listen)
There's nothin' quite as worrisome as a dollar bill
It's got the power to change a life, got the power to kill
I was goin' along just fine, felt like I was doin' all right with my time
Then a letter from the bank told me, I better make a few changes
Guess I wasn't keepin' very good track of the money that I was givin' back
I didn't know how much was goin' out, compared to comin' in
So many of us are just days away, from the fear of havin' our homes taken away
And the numbers don't lie, it aint a story you can spin
Just do what you love, and then the money will follow
How far behind, I'd like to know, am I gonna have to wait for a hundred tomorrows
I can only sit so long, while I play this guitar and sing this song
At some point, it's gonna have to kick in, at some point, it's gonna have to kick in
CHORUS
Hummingbird (listen)
A hummingbird got caught inside the curtains in my room
It was so small, could have made a bed inside a spoon
After a while, it stopped to rest, I caught in my nest
I let it go outside my door, and it took off like a jet
Last song I wrote was a year ago, I was singin' a different tune
I had a true love whose birthday was in June
Now you're gone, I'm alone just like I was before
By the time it was over, I was so worn down, I was lyin' there cryin' on the floor
I think you were a hummingbird, you fly from tree to tree
You might stop for a second or two, but never ever three
Maybe you were tryin' to be the eagle who sits all day and looks
But you didn't have the patience that it took
City wind blows just about the same as a small town
But it's easier to forget you because there's more people around
Someday soon, I'll let it go and let somebody else in
But right now, I wonder how I'll ever love again
CHORUS
Well I think about a month ago, I stopped askin' why
And I think about in a month or two, I'll stop feelin' like I'm gonna die
Somewhere down that lonesome road, I'll find my way again
Someday soon, I'll let it go and let somebody else in
Until then I'm a hummingbird, I fly from tree to tree
I might stop for a second or two, but never ever three
Maybe I was tryin' to be the eagle who sits all day and looks
But I didn't have the patience that it took
Keep on Pushin' (listen)
Keep on pushin', keep on pushin', keep on pushin', keep on pushin'
It's the quitters who can't seem to understand
That it's only sweet when it hurts a little
Keep your eyes on the prize, keep on stickin' to the plan
I know you've been wonderin'
Where's the return on the investment
How's it gonna pan out, are we chasin' fools gold in this basement
Everywhere we go, we're the best
We've just got to truly believe
We can have our dreams become reality
If we open up our arms and get ready to receive
CHORUS
In the center of the city
In the middle of the concrete jungle
A dandelion grows up through the cracks, I'd say that's a worthwhile struggle
Everywhere we go, we're the best
We've just got to truly believe
We can have our dreams become reality
If we open up our arms and get ready to receive
Light Me Up (listen)
strong>
(Special thanks to Kelley Johnson for help with the chords and melody on this one)
Light me up tonight, help me hold the road
Light me up tonight, let's share the load
When the sky is heavy, your eyes are too
I'll be the one you can muddle through
Nobody is makin' it the way they want
A demon has a choice of which house to haunt
It's a rough moment in time
But you and me, we're doin' fine
We don't have money to burn, don't need it to light a spark
Just waitin' for my luck to turn, you know it's hard drivin' in the dark
So light me up tonight, help me hold the road
Light me up tonight, let's share the load
New Life (listen)
My new life starts today, I can't wait to get it goin'
Don't mean that I aint' sad about leavin'
But I can't waste my time, on the things I wasn't knowin'
Of the philosophies that I just stopped believin'
And the sun still comes in through the same window
And my coffee cup still holds the same amount
But today, I've got a couple of new pitches to throw
Because I'm gonna show the world what I'm really all about
Seems like some people wanna say they're just gonna go the other way
But they're really afraid of doin' anything at all
Because the further out you get, the more you can't forget
The only reason anybody's watchin' is to see if you'll fall
You can look up on the wall and read the writing
You can do exactly what it says to do
You can find the road that everybody's taking
And nobody will ever say a word to you
CHORUS
No More (listen)
We don't see eye to eye no more
And I'm lookin' at that open door
And I notice that it's on the ground floor
And I'm wonderin' what I'm waiting for
We don't see eye to eye no more
No sense in lookin' back
Better just go and get my backpack
And head out before the next attack
I can't sit here and say, I wanted it this way
We still have more to prove, there are ways that we could move
But when I think of what I want, well it's something that you aint' got
That's fine I guess, seems like it's for the best
We don't see eye to eye no more
Hard to remember just when we did
Somewhere back when we were kids
And the truth was easily hid
CHORUS
We don't see eye to eye no more
And I'm lookin' at that open door
And I notice that it's on the ground floor
And I'm wonderin' what I'm waiting for
Spring's Almost Gone (listen)
Spring's almost gone and that means one thing
Only two more months of rain until the sunshine
But I don't worry, because I've been here before
And I know that I'll be ready for the summertime
Sun's comin' out, she's just waiting
Around here, she likes to take her time
She's been gone so long, I forgot what she looks like
But I'll recognize her when I see her, and I'm gonna make her mine
Gonna tell her she's beautiful, make her feel so fine
And I'm not gonna let her go home alone tonight
Now I'm not gonna tell you that it hasn't been hard
And I'm not gonna lie and say that I've been strong
I had my heart broken by the springtime sun
Who makes you think she's comin' before she turns around and runs
But I should know better because it happens every year
And the clouds don't give a damn, they've got better things to do
Than listen to the cursing of one foolish man
Who thought the clouds had something against me and you
Sun's comin' out, she's just waiting
Around here, she likes to take her time
She's been gone so long, I forgot what she looks like
But I'll recognize her when I see her, and I'm gonna make her mine
Gonna tell her she's beautiful, and get her drunk on wine
And I'm not gonna let her go home alone tonight
Spring's almost gone and that means one thing
Only two more months of rain until the sunshine
But I don't worry, because I've been here before
And I know that I'll be ready for the summertime
Thank You (listen)
Thank you for supporting me when runnin' away would have been easy
When I was gonna give up, you wouldn't let me
When I was gonna throw it all away, you kept me
Don't think that I'll forget that, because I won't
I'll do my best to pay you back
You see through the haze, and make your way around the maze
And choose the chances that need to be taken
And find the exit when it's time for escapin'
Don't think that I'll forget that, because I won't
I'll do my best to pay you back
Thank you for supporting me when runnin' away would have been easy
When I was gonna give up, you wouldn't let me
When I was gonna throw it all away, you kept me
You Deserve More (listen)
You deserve more than I could ever give
Eventually, I hope you forgive
The fact that I could never do what I should to deserve you
You shouldn't ever have to work again
Every day you ought to be sleepin' in
Breakfast in bed each day
Chocolate covered oranges on a silver tray
CHORUS
You should be walkin' on the beach
Every day you ought to see your dreams in reach
Pina Coladas and fried plantains
Winter sun, and summer rains
You deserve more than I could ever give
I hope I live as long as I would need to
To do all the things I should to deserve you
You should never cry
Every day you ought to feel like you could fly
Wings of an angel so light
Free as a bird in flight
CHORUS
